To meet design specifications, the perimeter of the photograph must be at least 150 cm. If the width is 19 cm., what restrictions must be placed upon the length?

Let x be the length.


Then the perimeter is x + 19 + x + 19 = 2x+38, and it must be >= 150 cm:

2x + 38 >= 150.


To solve this inequality, subtract 38 from both sides. You will get

2x >= 150 - 38 = 112.


Next divide both sides by 2. You will get

x >= 112%2F2 = 56.


Answer. The length must be >= 56 cm.


        The photo must be 56 cm or longer.  Not shorter.
