There are many different paths to the solution; different people will have preferences for different methods. Here is how I would solve the problem.

(1) Get the term containing the variable by itself by adding 8 to both sides of the equation

(2) Get rid of the coefficient on the variable by dividing both sides of the equation by (3/2). Since dividing by 3/2 is the same as multiplying by the reciprocal 2/3, multiply both sides of the equation by 2/3.
