Question 1047532: New to this. I determine the slope of the line 4x-7y+19=0.
I feel like I missed something. I solved the equation to get 19/7, and then got stuck. I then replaced x with -1 and 1 and I think I ended up with a slope of 0.57143 rounded. Am I right when I substitute x, I am changing the other side of the equation to reflect what x now is?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! In case you don't know how to take values directly from an equation to determine slope (for a line), try this: Find ANY two points of the line. Determine the ratio of vertical change to horizontal change. I would not really want to do that with this equation, but, if you want, you can find the axis intercepts, and use THEM to find slope.

If you're looking for the slope, you are correct. The slope is found by solving the equation for y, and when done, is: .
From this you can see that the slope, or m, is: , which when divided gives you 0.57143 (your slope), and the y-intercept is: .
By the way, why are you substituting - 1 for x?
