Proving the area of what? Proving the area of a square, rectangle, triangle, parallelogram are quite easy. If you wish to prove the area of a circle or ellipse you might very likely need to use some calculus for these. The area of a general triangle or quadrilateral is significantly more difficult than these (look up "Heron's formula" or "Bretschneider's Formula").
