Question 645721: What is the inverse of +f%28x%29+=+4%2Asqrt%284x%2B1%29+ ? I have tried about 10 different routes of solving but cannot get the exact right answer. I have narrowed it down to +4x+=+%28y%2F4%29%5E2-1+ . Working backward, I don't even understand how an inverse function could be solved to get an original function like that.

Question 645795:
Your grandmother made 360 oz of jelly. She
had two types of jars, holding 10 oz and 12 oz,
respectively.
Let x =number of 10-oz jars and
y =number of 12-oz jars.
Write an equation that represents the dif-
ferent numbers of 10-oz jars and 12-oz jars
that will just hold all of the jelly.
1. 10x + 10y = 360
2. 10x + 12y = 10(360)
3. None of these
4. 10x + 12y = 360
5. x + y = 360
6. 12x + 10y = 360

Question 649934: Okay, so I have a word problem that I have to write an equation for. Then I have to write a paper walking another classmate through how to do the problem. I've come up with an equation, but it doesn't fit the standard model for linear equations, which worries me.
Here's the word problem:
In order to build a house, a 15,300 gallon lake must be drained. Water can be drained from the lake at a
rate of 35 gallons per minute.
So I identified my variables,
water - independent variable - g - gallons
time - dependent variable - m - minutes
After staring at it for forever, I could only think that the problem is easily solved by dividing 15,300 by 35.
So my equation is:
m= 15,300/35
Which would make the horizontal intercept 437.14, meaning the lake could be drained completely in 437.14 minutes.
IT SEEMS WAY TOO SIMPLE! Am I doing this problem right?

Question 649450: A flag is raised while an onlooker watches from a distance of 17 feet away from the base of the flag pole. The flag rises vertically at a rate of 5 inches per second. Let t denote the time (in seconds) after the flag begins to rise (For simplicity, assume that when the flag begins to rise it is 0 inches above the ground). Express the distance d (in feet) between the flag and the onlooker as a function of t.
I have attempted this several times using the pythagorean theorem, but I I have not gotten the correct answer. Please help!
