Question 950019: Graph f(x) = -2x² - 4x +1
Here's what I have:
-2(x²+2x)+1
-2(x²+2x+1)+1+1
But my text is showing me this:
-2(x²+2x+1)-(-2)(1)+1
I am confused as to where the -2 comes from. I am assuming it is from my factoring it out in the beginning, but cannot make sense of it. Anyone have a clear explanation? Thanks in advance!

Question 950516: I don't know if I understand what f(x) =.... means
does the f mean function of "x" and whatever value we plug in for x results in our y value. Therefore, y can only be found relative to the x value chosen? Assuming this is correct why isn't it the other way around why can't we compute what x is relative to y like: f(y)=x? why isn't it done this way? I don't think I understand what functions are or exactly what f(x) is actually saying.
Please help me understand thanks.

Question 950938: Please help me figure this out.
f(x) = (1-x)/5x, g(x) = 1/(1+5x)
I am solving for g(f(x)) and f(g(x))
I started and got confused with the denominator and can't seem to reduce the denominator properly. I started with f(g(x)) and got (1-(1/1+5x) / 5(1/(1+5x) and am totally confused. Could someone please explain how to do this?

Question 951595: I am very confused with the end behavior of a Polynomial. Someone please help me with that.
Every polynomial has one of the following behaviors:
(i) y → ∞ as x → ∞ and y → ∞ as x → −∞
(ii) y → ∞ as x → ∞ and y → −∞ as x → −∞
(iii) y → −∞ as x → ∞ and y → ∞ as x → −∞
(iv) y → −∞ as x → ∞ and y → −∞ as x → −∞
For each polynomial, choose the appropriate description of its end behavior from the list above.
