Question 558182: Can someone please help me answer these?
Consider the example of the states of the United States and their U.S. senators. You can say that the senators are not a function of the states because each state has more than one senator. However, you can say that the states are a function of the senators because each senator is associated with only one state.
Make up your own examples of two real-world sets, with each set having more than one element.
Discuss how elements of those sets can be paired.
Explain whether one of the sets can be considered a function of the other.
Address the following regarding linear and nonlinear functions:
Explain the difference between a linear and nonlinear function. Point out a specific type of nonlinear function to help explain the difference.
Are linear/nonlinear equations the same as linear/nonlinear functions? What are the differences you see between equations and functions? Try to emphasize when one would use an equation or a function in a real-life application.

I need to find a rule to determine the value of y when given the value of x. I have been working on this for several hours now, and the only thing that I can see is that the value of y goes up by 6 when x is an even number, and y goes up by 4 when x is odd. I feel like this solution is more simple than I'm making it, but I can't make sense of it right now. Could you help me come up with a rule for this function table, please? Thank you.
Jennifer

Question 560105: We are learning about functions and linear functions. The question is about depreciation. Suppose the cost of a business property is $860,000 and a company depreciates it with the straigh-line method. Suppose y is the value of the property after t years.
How do I set the equation up?
I did this but I honestly don't know what I'm doing: y+t=860000

Question 560783: I'm having trouble writing the domain as a interval notation, but here is the question:
The domain of the function is f(x) = -12x+17 / (x^2)-7x+10.
Write the answer in interval notation.
I got that x=2 and x=5, so therefore the domain cannot be 2 or 5. So, the interval notation is (-infinity, 2)U(5,infinity). Is this correct?

Question 561888: I have a chapter 5 test review and have gone to my math teacher for help today but it still did not help. I do not understand what a function is. He says that f isn't important. But that just confused me even more. The question is "Write the function that has the given values in slope-intercept form." The numbers are f(0)=3, f(-2)=-7. If you could help me this would be great. I am in 9th grade and take algebra 1. Thank you for your time!
