Question 81604: I would like to ask a business and finance applcation involving functions.
The inventor of a new product believes that the cost of producing the prodict is given by the function, example;
C(x)=1.75+7000
How much does it cost to produce 2000 units of her invention?
If the inventor in exercise 53 charges $4 per unit, then her profit for producing and selling x units is given by the function.
P(x)=2.25x-7000

Question 82159: I don't know how to do this one. My teacher doesn't use the book to teach and he usually makes up his own problems. The book defines inverse of a function but I don't understand what it is trying to say, this stuff confuses me so much...
Find the inverse of f(x)=-2x^-1+3 and prove it's the inverse.
I know it has to do with f^-1 but I just don't understand where to plug this stuff in and how to solve it.

Question 82189: Hi and thank you in advanced for your help. I'm in a pre-algebra class and I missed class yesterday and I'm supposed to finish 2 work sheets about functions. My pre-algebra teacher gave me the definition but I don't fully understand it. Could you please explain it to me in a way that I can understand? Also in one of the work sheets it says to "find four solutions to each equation" and then it gives me this:
1. y = x - 5
What am I supposed to do with it?

Question 82200: Sorry for asking so many questions, but I really need to kow this one: how do I know wheter a relation is a function or not?
and how am I supposed to graph this type of equation? my work sheet says to "graph each equation by plotting ordered pairs" and then it gives me several equations such as this one:
y = 2x - 1

Question 82157: I came out with a weird answer and I don't know if I did this correctly. Please help me! My teacher makes up problems for the homework so I don't have a chapter or book number.
If F(x)=4x-2 and g(x)=x(2-x)^-1 Find:
a) g(f(g(4)))
b)f(g(x))
I did this and it just doesn't look right.
A)
g(x)=4(2-4)^-1
-2
4(-.5)
g=2
f(-2)=4(-2)-2
-8-2
-10
g(-10)=-10(2+10)^-1
12
1/12
-10(.083)
-.833
f(g(x))
f(g(x))=4(x(2-x)^-1)-2
4(x(1/2))-2
4(x/2-x)-2
(4x/2-x)-2
-8x/2-x

Question 82486: I need to match the function has with its possible range.
function is y=-5x + 1
ranges to choose from:
-7,-4,-1,2,5,8
-5,-3,-1,1,3
11,6,1,-4,-9,-14
4,3,2,1,0
I have no idea how to even begin to solve this question. Can you tell me the range and explain how it is done. This is from a worksheet from McDougal Littell Middle School Math, Course 2 Chapter 7.

Question 82668: This problem is not from a textbook:
I understand that I need to create two equations but I am not sure how to formulate them. I am not sure how to position the variables in the "rate x time = distance" formula...
In a canoe race, a team paddles downstream 560 meters in 70 seconds. The same team makes the trip back upstream to the starting point in 80 seconds. First, write a system of two equations in two variables that models the problem. (Let r = the rate of the canoe team in still water and c = the rate of the current.
Second, find the team's rate in still water and the rate of the current
