Question 937605: Find the range of this function f(x) defined over the largest possible domain.
x + 1/x
I tried to do this by completing the square by multiplying out the x at the bottom. So I got:
x^2 + 1 = 0
(x+1/2)^2 -1/4 = 0
So f(x) > 1/4
But the textbook says f(x) < or equal to -2
or f(x) > or equal to 2.
I really need help on how to get to these answers.

Question 938601: our teacher asked us to consider this relation below:
A = { (x, y) ∈ ℝ^2 ∶ y^3 = x^2 }
Is A a function of x on ℝ?
*please note R is the symbol for real numbers
After considering it i don't think it is a function as the square root of a negative number does not exsist as a real number ?
so would this not be a function of x on R? or is my thinking in correct or is this relation in fact a function?
An explanation would be greatly appreciated thank you
