Question 914249: I am very desperate here and have no clue were to turn. I am a single mother of 3 45 yrs old whom went back to college and now feel really stupid. I am forced to take this course as part of my goals to obtain my degree. Were doing solving systems of linear equations by substitution and i have no clue how to do it i have worked countless hours on this and many other chapters and just can't get it and i have to complete three chapters by the 21st for my midterm grade if not i'm going to just have to crush my dreams by dropping out of college and looking like a failure to my kids. the question is: Solve the following system of linear equations by substitution:
{-2x+y=24
{5y =10x+120
These are all in one bracket not two i have no clue how to make it just one bracket. Then under it say's please select whether the given system of linear equations is consistent, inconsistent, or dependent. if the system is consistent, please enter the solution.
Thank you so much for helping me and others out there.

Question 914483: Hi, I need help solving this math word problem please.
The average number of vehicles waiting in line to enter a sports arena parking lot is modeled by the function w(x)=x^2/2(1-x), where x is a number between 0 and 1 and known as the traffic intensity. Find the average number of vehicles waiting if the traffic intensity is 0.63.
According to my professor, the answer is: 0.54 -average number of vehicles waiting (rounded to nearest hundreth)
Would you please show me the steps on how my professor got this answer please. Thank you.

Question 916049: Please help: need to identify the independent and dependent variables and write a rule in function notation for the following:
To rent a DVD, a customer must pay $3.99 plus $0.99 per day that the DVD is late.
We have come up with this: f(x)=3.99x+.99y; however, we are currently only using one variable. But, we believe that in order to find the dependent variable, we need to show "y" after .99. If this equation is in fact correct.
Thank you.

Question 916124: Determine whether the function f : Z × Z → Z is onto if
a) f (m, n) = m.
b) f (m, n) = |n|.
c) f (m, n) = m − n.
I know that "is f onto" is equivalent to "Given any integer k, can you find two integers m and n such that [insert function value here] = k?"
Wouldn't that make ALL of them onto? If not, why not?
