Question 971870: Find domain for f(x)=3x+5, f(x)=3x/x+4
Answer by nerdybill(7384) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! "Domain" specifies all the values that 'x' can take
for
f(x)=3x+5:
domain is all real numbers
or in interval notation:
(-oo, +oo)
where oo is for infinity
.
for
f(x)=3x/x+4
because we can't divide by zero
we set the denominator to zero and solve for x (defines values x can't take)
x+4=0
x = -4
domain is all real numbers except -4
or, in interval notation:
(-oo,-4) U (-4, +oo)
