The way those work is this:

Based on y=f(x),

y=f(x-h) shifts h units to the right if h>0, or h units to the left if h<0.

y=f(x)+k shifts k units up if k>0, or k units down if k<0.

For h and k both positive numbers,
y=f(x-h)+k shifts h units to the right and k units up.
y=f(x-h)-k shifts h units to the right and k units down.
y=f(x+h)+k shifts h units to the left and k units up.
