1%2F8x = 13%2F24 + 1%2F3y
First get rid of those annoying fractions,
multiply the 1st equation by 40, the 2nd equation by 24
24x + 10y = -44
3x = 13 + 8y
Rearrange the 2nd equation
24x + 10y = -44
3x - 8y = 13
multiply the 2nd equation by 8
24x + 10y = -44
24x - 64y = 104
------------------subtraction eliminates x, find y
74y = -148
y = -148/84
y = -2

Use eq: 3x = 13 + 8y to find x
3x = 13 + 8(-2)
3x = 13 - 16
3x = -3
x = -1
