This is a sum of two squares factorization. x%5E2+%2B+y%5E2 factors to (x+yi)(x-yi) where i is the complex number sqrt%28-1%29 and i%5E2+=+-1.


The trick is recognizing that h%5E4+=+%28h%5E2%29%5E2. Of course 64 = 8^2.
