SOLUTION: I honestly have no idea how to answer this problem. It's not from a book, my teacher made it up.
f(x)=x+4
find (f(x))^2
I wrote down (x+4)^2 which equals x^2+16 just to have

Question 56925: I honestly have no idea how to answer this problem. It's not from a book, my teacher made it up.
f(x)=x+4
find (f(x))^2
I wrote down (x+4)^2 which equals x^2+16 just to have an answer. I'd rather have an example problem like this one so I could learn from that instead of just having a correct answer. Thank you! Found 2 solutions by stanbon, funmath:Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! f(x)=x+4
find (f(x))^2
[f(x)]^2=(x+4)^2
=(x+4)(x+4)
Use the FOIL method to get the product, as follows:
F: x*x=x^2
O: x*4=4x
I: 4*x=4x
L: 4*4=16
Addthe results to get:
x^2+8x+16
Hope this helps.

Ok, here you go.
What if f(x)=x+5

You are missing your middle term, because you didn't FOIL.
I hope you liked my example, I admire your ethics.
Happy Calculating!!!
