Any time you see f%28x%29, you can substitute a letter
like +y+ or z+.
Also, f(x) doesn't have to be f. You can simply
say +f%28x%29+=+g%28x%29+. Now you can use g.
If I say f%28x%29+=+x%5E3+, then what is the advantage
of saying it that way?
I have said that f(something) = (something)^3 and
now I can say +f%28x+%2B+1%29+=+%28x%2B+1%29%5E3+
Also, I can add functions of x, like
+f%28x%29+%2B+f%28x%2B1%29+=+x%5E3+%2B+%28x%2B1%29%5E3+

The "f" simply denotes that it is a function in terms of x.
