Question 21873: HOw is the graph of y=x^2-4 obtained from the graph of y=x^2?
Answer by MORUPHOSUOLALE(24) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
VISUALISING AND DTERMINE THE BEHAVIOR OF A PARABOLA.
AS a matter of fact the graph of X^2 was shifted downward(vertically) by 4 units. So the new graph is obtained by shifting the first graph downwards by 4 units.
This is an important area you need to master in parabola.
We have a lot of constant rule that had been discovered by the greatest scholar of their time and which are still in use today.
One of them is rules of visualising and determining the movement of parabola.
THE RULE ARE-
GIVEN ,f(x)
If f(x) becomes f(x)+k
if k is positive= the graph of f(x) had shifted up(vertically)by k unit.
if k is negative= the graph had shifted down(vertically) by k units.
As in your problem, the graph had shifted downward by 4 units.
Thanks.
