Question 1175146: Determine whether the relation represents a function. If it is a function, state the domain and range.
{(-4,11), (-3,4), (0,-5), (3,4), (5,20)}
A. function
domain: {11, 4, -5, 20}
range: {-4, -3, 0, 3, 5}
B. function
domain: {-4, -3, 0, 3, 5}
range: {11, 4, -5, 20}
C. not a function

How To: Given a relationship between two quantities, determine whether the relationship is a function.
{( , ), ( , ), ( , ), ( , ), ( , )}
Identify the input values.=> domain is , , ,
Identify the output values.=> range is , , ,
If each input value leads to output value, classify the relationship as a function.
as you can see pairs ( , ) and ( , ) two different inputs lead to same output
so, answer is C. not a function
an example:
In the above mapping from C to D, every element of C has an image in D.
But, the element '2' in C has two images (20 and 40) in D. Since the above relation does not meet the second condition, it is not a function.
