Linear equations are of the form
y=m%2Ax%2Bb , where m is usually called slope,
but it could also be called rate of change.
For example, if a small child gets a piggy bank with 5 coins inside,
and each night adds the 2 coins mom gives him as allowance because he was a good boy,
after x days, the number of coins in the piggy bank, C ,
will be
highlight%28C=2x%2B5%29 , with a rate of change (or slope) of %222+coins+%2F+day%22 .
4.5%2F2=2.25 , and 2%2F5=0.4 ,
so a rate of 2 is between the two numbers specified.
