SOLUTION: Find the inverse of each of the following functions.State the domain of the inverse function:
a) f:[-1,4]-R,f(x) 10-9x
I got f(x)= -(x-10)/9

Question 1075999: Find the inverse of each of the following functions.State the domain of the inverse function:
a) f:[-1,4]-R,f(x) 10-9x
I got f(x)= -(x-10)/9
b) f: (-6,infinity)-R, f(x)=(x+7)^2
I only got as far as (6+7)^2= f^-1(x) Answer by htmentor(1343) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! To solve (b), first solve for x in terms of y, or f(x):
y = (x+7)^2 -> x+7 = sqrt(y) -> x = sqrt(y)-7
Now swap x and y:
y = f^-1(x) = sqrt(x) - 7
We see from the graph that the original function and its inverse are
symmetric about the line y=x, as they must be.
