We say a function f is increasing on an interval I if for all x and y in I,
x+%3C+y implies f+%28x%29+%3C+f+%28y%29.
We say f is decreasing on an interval I if for all x and y in I,
x+%3C+y implies f+%28x%29+%3E+f+%28y%29.
Example:
f+%28x%29+=+x%5E2
is decreasing+on (−∞, 0] and increasing on [0, ∞).
If this function is increasing on [0, ∞), it is increasing between 2 and 3.
