Question 763574: I have to find the Domain of g(x)= 3-2√(5-x). i've gone on to mathway.com where it solved it for me but it wont show me the step by step. i've tried moving the 3 over then dividing everything by 2 then squaring everything to get rid of the square root. but then after that i don't know what to do. i've tried searching all night for some form of example online of how to do this problem but none of the examples have numbers in front of the square root so i have no idea what to do with them. :(

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
+g%28x%29=+3-2%2Asqrt%28+5-x+%29+
Just looking at it, if +x+%3E+5+, then +sqrt%28+5-x+%29+
is imaginary.
As long as +x+%3C=+5+ the function is OK
Here's the plot:
+graph%28+400%2C+400%2C+-7%2C+7%2C+-7%2C+7%2C+3+-+2%2Asqrt%28+5-x+%29+%29+

The domain of g%28x%29=3-2%2Asqrt%285-x%29 , means the set of possible values of x acceptable for the function. What values of x can the function, g(x), accept?

Square root function itself can only allow for positive input values, so g(x) has a restriction on 5-x and therefore a restriction on x. The expression, %285-x%29, must be positive or zero. This assumes that you are only interested in real numbered range for g(x).

%285-x%29%3E=0 is the necessary restriction for the square root part.
5-x%3E=0
5%3E=x
