You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Given y=(x-2)/(x+5) find the inverse function (switch x&y and solve for Y)
x=%28y-2%29%2F%28y%2B5%29
x%28y%2B5%29=%28y-2%29%28y%2B5%29%2F%28y%2B5%29
xy%2B5x=y-2
xy%2B5x-5x=y-2-5x
xy=y-2-5x
xy-y=-2-5x
y%28x-1%29=-2-5x
y%28x-1%29%2F%28x-1%29=%28-2-5x%29%2F%28x-1%29
y=%28-2-5x%29%2F%28x-1%29 This is the inverse.
Some books and teachers don't like having all of those negative signs. If that's the case, multiply the numerator and denominator by -1:
y=-1%28-2-5x%29%2F%28-1%28x-1%29%29
y=%282%2B5x%29%2F%28-x%2B1%29
y=%285x%2B2%29%2F%281-x%29 Might be the answer in the back of your book. It's the same thing.
Happy Calculating!!!
