You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I'll give you ALL the possible values for a.
We solve |3a -17| < a <---(A)
This inequality is equivalent to -a < 3a - 17 < a,
<==> -a < 3a - 17 intersection 3a - 17 < a
<==> 17 < 4a intersection 2a < 17
<==> 17/4 = 4.25 < a intersection a < 17/2 = 8.5.
Therefore the solution set is the open interval (4.25, 8.5). ANY number in this interval will satisfy inequality (A).
