Question 386139: determine the domain and the range of the function. Then state wheter the relation is a function
f(x)= |x^2-7|
Answer by jsmallt9(3758) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! When determining a domain we look for numbers which, for some reason or another, cannot be used. These numbers are to be excluded from the domain.
In your function, since the x is squared and any number can be squared, there is no reason to exclude any numbers. So the domain is all real numbers.
For the range we will be determining the set of all possible values for the function. Your function is equal to an absolute value. Absolute values can never be negative (no matter what number is inside the absolute value). So your range is the set of all non-negative (IOW, zero or positive) numbers.
