Can you help me understand the difference between domain and range?

Domain = set of all possible x-values
Range = set of all possible y-values.

[You can remember this because D comes before R in the alphabet
and x comes before y in the alphabet.]

More specifically:

The domain of a given function is the set of all values which may be
substituted for x in the function's equation. 

The range of a given function is the set of all values which may be
obtained by substituting those values for x in the domain in the 
function's equation.
