Question
A student knows that she will need $3,500 five years from now. She must decide between Bank A, which offers 7% compounded weekly, and Bank B, which offers 6% compounded continuously. Which bank should she use? Explain your answer.
My answer:
Bank A
A=P(1+r)^n
3500=P(1+0.0013)^260
P=(5500)/(1+0.0013)^260
P=(3500)/(1.0013)^260
P=3500/1.4018
P=$2496.79
Bank B
A=Pe^ri
3500=Pe^0.06(5)
P=3500/e^0.06(5)
P=3500/2.71828^0.3
P=3500/1.3498585
P=$2592.86
She should use Bank A because she will invest less.

Question 955065: In the following question and answer, I am trying to figure out where the "1.09^3" number comes from in the NPV solution. What is this and where do I find it? Here is the problem:
The Techron I costs $222,000, has a three-year life, and has pretax operating costs of $57,000 per year. Use straight-line depreciation to zero over the project’s life and assume a salvage value of $34,000. If your tax rate is 35 percent and your discount rate is 9 percent. Find OCF and NPV:
OCF = −$57,000(1 − 0.35) + 0.35($222,000/3) = −$11,150
NPV = −$222,000 − $11,150(PVIFA9%,3) + ($22,100/1.09^3) = −$233,158.68

+ 11 devided by 8
s a parabola.
(i) Is the parabola u-shaped or n-shaped? How can you tell this from
the equation? [1]
(ii) Use algebra to find the x-intercepts. [4]
(iii) Explain why the y-intercept is 11/8
(iv) Find the equation of the axis of symmetry, explaining your
method. Use this information to find the coordinates of the
vertex, rounding your answers where necessary to one decima i think the parabol is u shaped due to their being a negative number in the equation. i think the 2nd answer is y=x^2/16+21x/16+11/8 16y=x^2+21x+22
16y-x^2-21x-22=0 ax^2+bx+c=0 a=-1, b=-21, c=-22+16y
x=21 sqrt64y+353/-2 21-sqrt 64y+353/-2 simplyfy
