Question 314634: Describe an investment that could be represented by the function f(x)=1200(1.065)^x.
I'm wondering if they're asking to solve for x or something else? I'm assuming the rate is 1-1.065= 0.065 which means the rate is 6.5% and the principle is P=1200.

Question 315530: Some people look forward to retiring from work by the age of 65. Compare the amounts at age 65 that would result from making an annual deposit of $1000 starting at age 20, or from making an annual deposit of $3000 starting at age 50, to an RRSP that earns 6% interest per annum, compounded annually. What are the final amounts for both situations and state which one is more profitable.
I know how to get the answer the only thing I'm iffy about is the amount of years.
For Option 1, is it (65-20=45 years) of saving or 46 years? Same thing with Option 2, is it (65-50=15 years) or 16 years? I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out. Thanks in advance.

Question 318347: Does anyone know how to solve the compound interest formula for RATE?
Likely we are all familiar with the compound interest formula, thus:
A=%28P%281%2B%28r%2Fn%29%29%5E%28n%2At%29%29
Where:
A = amount
P = principle
r = rate (percent written as a decimal term)
n = number of compounding periods per year (i.e., quarterly = 4)
t = number of years
One of the tutors was so good as to solve this formula for TIME, thus:
t=%28LOG%28A%2FP%29%29%2F%28n%2A%28LOG%281%2B%28r%2Fn%29%29%29%29
Does anyone know how to solve this formula for the RATE? Stan has $1,500.00 and would quite like to have $5,000 in five years on a compound interest account. What interest rate must he fetch to meet this goal?

Question 319724: My question is about an annuity. How do we solve the annuity formula for time? Now, scott8148 has been great with reversing a formula with logarithmic conversions, but this seems pretty complex.
The standard annuity formula reads as such:
w=%28P%281%2Br%2Fn%29%5E%28nt-1%29%28r%2Fn%29%29+%2F+%28%281%2Br%2Fn%29%5E%28nt%29-1%29
This would answer the question, "If some money is withdrawn from the principle every month for 20 years, how much could be withdrawn?"
Fair enough, but what about a question such as, "Jan wants to withdraw $800 every month until her account reaches zero. How long will it be before her account reaches zero?" This is assuming that the amount withdrawn would be large enough to break past the interest and cut into the capital, of course.
Thanks so much for any reply,
