Question 891560: please help me with this math problem its really important to pass my class

Years (1982) (1983) (1984) (1985) (1986) (1987) (1988) (1989) (1990) (1991) (1992) (1993) (1994) (1995) (1996)
Cumulative AIDS Cases in the U.S. (1,617) (4,758)(11,069) (23034)( 42327) (71273) (107144) (150168) (198938) (258538) (336522) (414163) (483122) (544736) (581429)

1. Plot the data from the table on graph paper. The independent variable, plotted on the x-axis, represents the year, and the dependent variable, plotted on the y-axis, represents the number of new AIDS cases. The plotted data on graph paper serves as a visual companion to the above table.

2. Plot the data from the table using the graphing calculator. Use the same axes for the dependent and independent variables as in the previous step.
3. On the graphing calculator, determine the exponential curve that best fits the data from 1982 to 1996. When entering the data, let the years 1982 through 1996 be represented by the numbers 2 through 16.
4. Use the graphing calculator to graph this equation on your plotted data. Discuss the fit.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Press ON
Press CLEAR
Press STAT
Press 1
In L1, list the numbers 2 through 16
In L2, list the numbers corresponding to the years
Press STAT
Press the right arrow key to highlight CALC
Scroll down to 0:ExpReg
Press ENTER

Now you will do A or B depending on whether you have
the older or the newer calculator.
--------------------------------

A. If you have the older calculator you will see

     ExpReg

Press Y= and clear out anything in there
Press the UP arrow key to highlight Plot1
Press Enter
Press 2ND
Press MODE (QUIT)
See ExpReg
Press VARS
Press the right arrow key to highlight Y-VARS
Press 1
Press 1
You see ExpReg Y1
Press ENTER

---------------------------------

B. If you have the newer calculator with the Stat Wizard

        you see

            ExpReg
  Xlist:L1
  Ylist:L2
  FreqList:
  Store RedEQ:
  Calculate

Scroll down to Store RegEQ:

Press the right arrow key to highlight Y-VARS
Press 1
Press 1

It should now read

            ExpReg
  Xlist:L1
  Ylist:L2
  FreqList:
  Store RedEQ:Y1
  Calculate

Scroll to CALCULATE

-----------------------------
You see
y=a*b^x and the values of a,b,rư and r.

That's your equation.

Press ZOOM
Scroll down to 9ZoomStat
Press ENTER

See your graph.
