You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Total sales = 600
Some part of the sale was done with 10% VAT, some with 25% VAT
Total VAT = 135
Assume x dollars of sales was with 10% VAT. That means (600 - x) was sold at 25% VAT.
VAT for x dollars at 10% = x++%2A+10%2F100+=+0.1%2Ax
VAT for (600 - x) at 25% = %28600+-+x%29+%2A+0.25+=+150+-+0.25%2Ax
But the above 2 have to add up to 135. So we get the equation
0.1%2Ax+%2B+150+-+0.25%2Ax+=+135
Simplifying
+-0.15%2Ax+=+-15 or x+=+-15%2F-0.15+=+100
So,
USD 100 of sales was at 10% VAT (which translates to USD 10)
USD 500 of sales was at 25% VAT (which translates to USD 125}
Total VAT = 135
