You can put this solution on YOUR website! if each stamp is equal to 6 dollars then the number of stamps you can buy with x dollars is equal to x/6 rounded down to the nearest integer.
example:
if you have 47 dollars, you can buy 47/6 = 7 stamps
7*6 = 42 dollars and your change will be 47 - 42 = 5 dollars.

How many $6-stamps can be bought in X dollars?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If each stamp is equal to 6 dollars, then the number of stamps you can buy with X dollars is equal to
, if is an integer number,
and/or
rounded down to the nearest integer, if is not an integer number.
Examples:
(1) If you have 48 dollars, you can buy 48/6 = 8 stamps.
Using arithmetic, you divide first 48 by 6: = 8.
Since you get an integer number (8 in this case), you stop here
and your final answer is 8 stamps.
(2) If you have 47 dollars, you can buy 7 stamps.
Using arithmetic, you divide first 47 by 6: = 7 .
Since you get non-integer number, you round 7 to the nearest lesser integer,
which is 7, giving your final answer.
