You can put this solution on YOUR website!

422%2Fx+=+52%2B3%2Fy

This is another problem similar to others posted recently that is not posed correctly. The equation as shown contains two variables and so has an infinite number of solutions.

422%2Fx+=+52%2B3%2Fy
422=52x%2B3x%2Fy
422-52x=3x%2Fy
y=3x%2F%28422-52x%29

You can choose any value you want for x (except the single value that makes the denominator zero) and find the corresponding y value.

For the question to have a single answer, the statement of the problem needs to specify that x and y are integers.

If x and y are integers, playing around with possible solutions (or analyzing the graph of y=3x%2F%28422-52x%29) shows that the only nonzero solution is x=8 and y=4.

Note that unique solution in nonzero integers can also quickly be found by assuming that the fraction 3/y is a proper fraction -- i.e., by assuming the given equation shows dividing 422 by an integer and expressing the result as a whole number and a proper fraction remainder.

(apparent) ANSWER: (x,y) = (8,4)
