As long as points M, N, and O are not on the same straight line, then the noncollinear points will determine a unique plane.

If the points were on a straight line, then imagine a flat piece of paper able to rotate about that line. Think of a propeller blade perhaps. Based on this thought experiment, we can see that there are infinitely many planes through three collinear points.

This is why we need the points to be noncollinear. Simply make your favorite triangle with M, N, O.
