Let the consecutive numbers be N-2, N, N%2B2, and N%2B4.
So you know,
N-2%2BN%2BN%2B2%2BN%2B4=36
4N%2B4=36
4N=32
N=8
So then, the average would be,
A=%28N-2%2BN%2B4%29%2F2=%282N%2B2%29%2F2=N%2B1=9
