You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Computer City sells batteries ($3) and small boxes of pens ($5). In August total sales were $960. Customers bought 5 times as many batteries as boxes of pens. How many of each did computer city sell? Check your answer.
------------------
Let number of pens be "x"; value of these is 5x dollars
------------
Number of batteries is 5x: value of these is 3*5x = 15x dollars
---------------------------
EQUATION:
value + value = 960 dollars
5x + 15x = 960
20x = 960
x = 48 (number of pens sold)
5x = 240 (number of batteries sold)
===========
Checking:
5*48 + 3*240 = 960
240 + 720 = 960
960 = 960
===========
