You can put this solution on YOUR website!
r, rate of Abe

The two separate from eachother at 4-r miles per hour.

%284-r%29%2A2=2
4-r=1
-r=1-4
r=3----------Abe's horse's rate

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let +d+ = distance Jodi's horse travels in 2 hrs
+d+-+2+ = distance Abe's horse travels in 2 hrs ( slower horse )
Let +s+ = Abe's horse's speed in mi/hr
-----------------------
Jodi's Equation:
(1) +d+=+4%2A2+
Abe's equation:
(2) +d+-+2+=+s%2A2+
----------------------
(1) +d+=+8+
Plug this result into (2)
(2) +8+-+2+=+2s+
(2) +2s+=+6+
(2) +s+=+3+
Abe's horse's speed is 3 mi/hr
-------------------------------
check:
(2) +d+-+2+=+s%2A2+
(2) +d+-+2+=+3%2A2+
(2) +d+=+2+%2B+6+
(2) +d+=+8+
OK
