You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let n be your initial population. Then the town increased by 50/3% the first year, so it is 1+50/3% times its original size, or 3000 x 1.166666667, or 3500. Similarly, the next year it was 3500 x 1.1, or 3850, by the end of 1991. ☺☺☺☺
