Question 1032257: A circular two tiered wedding cake needs to be frosted. Each tier is 4in high. The bottom tier has a radius of 8in. The top tier has a radius of 3in. Find the surface area of the wedding cake that needs to be frosted. Assume both tiers will be frosted all around, including the bottom. Use 3.14 for pi.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Hi there,
Surface area of bottom tier
= Circumference x height + 2 x π x radius^2
= πx 2 x radius x 4 + 2 x π x radius^2
= π x 2 x 8 x 4 + 2 x π x 8^2
= 602.8 ins^2
Surface area of top tier
= Circumference x height + 2 x π x radius^2
= πx 2 x radius x 4 + 2 xπ x radius^2
= π x 2 x 3 x 4 + 2 x π x 3^2
= 131.88 ins^2
Hope this helps :-)
