Question 1028533: A squad of soldiers is lined up in order of height from
tallest to shortest. Mark is in the middle. The others
measure 168 cm, I72 cm, 176 cm and 180 cm. Since the median
of these 4 scores is 174 cm, this means that Mark must be
174 cmtall. Is this true or false?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A squad of soldiers is lined up in order of height from
tallest to shortest. Mark is in the middle. The others
measure 168 cm, I72 cm, 176 cm and 180 cm. Since the median
of these 4 scores is 174 cm, this means that Mark must be
174 cm tall. Is this true or false?
174 is the median of the 4 soldiers' heights WITHOUT Mark.
But if you put Mark in the middle, the median of the 5 soldiers,
including Mark, might not necessarily be 174.

168, 172, MARK, 176, 180

Mark's height could be anywhere from 172 to 176.

However, whatever his height is, that would be the median
of the five soldiers.

Now, is the question true of false? You answer.
