Complementary angles add up to 90 degrees
Example: What is the complementary angle of 43 degrees?
Answer: 90 - 43 = 47 degrees
------------------------------------------------------------
Supplementary angles add up to 180 degrees
Example: What is the supplementary angle of 143 degrees?
Answer: 180 - 143 = 37 degrees
-------------------------------------------------
In either case, the angles don't have to be next to each other, though they can be. See below examples of complementary angles where the angles are apart and one supplementary angle where the angles are next to each other.
