You can put this solution on YOUR website! I think what you are trying to say is that the salesman receives a base salary of $x (you say 20 disscount, I don't know what that means).
Your formula is:
Base salary + 40%x = 260 where x is the value of his sales. I'll use $20 as his base salary):
------------------------------------------------------------------
20+0.40x = 260 Subtract 20, both sides:
0.40x= 240 Divide both sides by 0.40:
x= 600
