Nine more than a number is the same as a quarter of the number, subtracted from twenty-four. What is the number?
---------------------------------------------------------------
Let x be an unknown number.

Then x + 9 = 24 - 1%2F4x.

Simplify and solve it:

5%2F4x = 24-9 = 15,

x = 15 : 5%2F4 = 12.

Answer. x = 12.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

let number be x
nine more than a number:x%2B9
is the same as:=
a quarter of the number, subtracted from twenty-four:24-x%2F4
x%2B9=24-x%2F4 ...solve for x
x%2Bx%2F4=24-9
5x%2F4=15
5x=15%2A4
x=%28cross%2815%293%2A4%29%2Fcross%285%29
x=3%2A4
x=12
so, the number is 12
