The total amount the four brothers received was $504. How much did the oldest brother received? Answer by Cromlix(4381) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Hi there,
Youngest brother would receive $x
Next brother up would receive $10 + x
Next brother up would receive $20 + x
Next brother up would receive $30 + x
Totalised:
x + (10 + x) + (20 + x) + (30 + x) = $504
Collect like terms:
4x + 60 = $504
4x = $504 - $60
4x = $444
x = $111.
Oldest brother received $30 + $111 = $141.
Hope this helps :-)
