your family is trying to decide between two cable companies. satellite systems charges $49 to set the service and $29 per month for basic cable. the other company, communications cable, charges $25 to set up the service and $37 per month for basic table.
a. in how many months will both services cost the same?
b.what will that cost be?
c. which systems should you choose if your family will only need the service for 6 months?

Let m be the # of months, C_s be the cost of satellite, and C_c be the cost of communications.
a)
C_s = 49 + 29m
C_c = 25 + 37m

C_s = C_c when 49 + 29m = 25 + 37m, or 24 = 8m --> m = 3.

b) That cost is 49 + 29*3 = $136 (alternatively 25 + 37*3 = $136).

c) You will save money with the satellite systems if you use it for 6 months (plug in m = 6).
