: This problem isn't in the book
2y(3+4)-4(y+1)=5+1
6y+4y-4y+-4=5y+1
It's confusing there is like 3 variables, I always kinda wondered though would you go -5 to both sides or +4y to both sides and how do you know? How odes it affect the answer? Does the -4 multiply to take the () out on the right side or does in multiply on the lleft side too? Thanks in advance!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2y%283%2B4%29-4%28y%2B1%29=5red%28y%29%2B1
or 6y%2Bred%288%29y-4y-4=5y%2B1
or 10y-4=5y%2B1
or 10y-4+-+5y+%2B+4=5y%2B1+-5y+%2B+4
or 5y+=+5
or y+=+1
You have done a mistake in first step and also in the second step. I have marked the corrections in red.
