The Question is: Find the amount of the 100 tons shoveled by each brother and the amount of time each brother works shoveling coal?

Let d = additional days to finish the job
:
Ben + Char = 100 tons
16(d+3) + 10d = 100
16d + 48 + 10d = 100
26d = 100 - 48
26d = 52

therefore, Ben worked 5 days, Char worked 2 days
