Question 479914: how to write an equation to show how the amount of money in a bag of quarters relates to the number of quarters in the bag.
Answer by tinbar(133) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! well, we know for each quarter we have we get 25 cents.
So we can model this in two ways: 1) give the amount of money in dollars or 2) give the amount of money in cents
1) if it's in dollars, then for each quarter we have .25 dollars, so let y represent the money in dollars and let x represent the number of quarters, then you should agree that y = 0.25x, which is basically saying the amount of money raises by 0.25 dollars for each quarter.
2) if it's in cents, then for each quarter we have 25 cents, so let y represent the money in cents and let x represent the number of quarters, then you should agree that y = 25x, which is basically saying the amount of money raises by 25 cents for each quarter we have.
Hope this helped
