Find the discriminant of solve using the quadratic equation.
The discriminant is the value in the radicand of the quadratic formula.
It is: b^2 - 4ac.
We need to take your given equation and write it in standard form.
6 - 5x = 6x^2 becomes 6x^2 + 5x - 6 = 0
In the quadratic equation, 6x^2 + 5x - 6 = 0, a = 6, b = 5 and c = -6.
Plug that into the discriminant and simplify.
b^2 - 4ac....This is the discriminant.
We now plug and chug.
(5)^2 - 4(6)(-6)
25 - (24)(-6)
25 + 144 = 169
