Question 53376: When solving the following for x, I get 5. However, the review sheet I'm working with says I should get 25/8. I can't find how they got that answer and I think my problem lies in manipulating the exponents.

Question 53378: (3x^2)^3(2/3x^-1y)^2
The problem reads...The quantity (three x squared) raised to the third power multiplied by the quantity (two third x raised to the negative one power y) squared.
I need to simplify I keep getting 3x^44y^2 (three x raised to the fourth power four y squared) but that is not right.

Question 53860: This is more of a proceedural question.
My daughters teacher has taught them that -3^2=-9 while -(3^2)=9
And it states in the text on page 83 section 17.B this is the case.
I have been always taught that two negatives equal a positive.
Is this "new" math? Or am I mis-remembering
Thank You for any help you may provide
Robert

AN OUTPUT OF ONE TON OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS REQUIRES AN INPUT OF 0.1 TON OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS , 0.01 TONS OF INDUSTRIA PRODUCTS , 0.02 TONS OF MINING PRODUCTS . AN OUTPUT OF ONE TON OF MINING PRODUCTS REQUIRES AN INPUT OF 0.01 TON OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS ,0.05 OF INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS AND 0.13 OF MINING PRODUCTS . ONE TON OF INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS REQUIRED AN INPUT OF 0.04 OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS , 0.15 OF INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS , AND 0.03 OF MINING PRODUCTS .
QUESTION :

Question 54783: The function is written in long form to describe a visual branching problem-- a center star with three points, each of those branching to three points, etc.
For n=1, total points (x) = 1
For n=2, total points (x) = 1 + 3
For n=3, x = 1 + 3 + 3 squared
For n=4, x = 1 +3 + 3square + 3 cubed
So the last number in the sequence is always 3 with an exponent of (n-1)
Short of brute force with a calculatorm how would I calculate x for n=100?
How would I write the formula?

Question 55681: I am trying to solve for a "to the power of x" equation using a scientific calculator.
I have started with an example for which I know the answer
How do you use a calculator to solve for, for example:
5 to the power of x = 125
Solve for x.
I know x =3 but how do you get the calculator to tell you this!
Ultimately I want to know how to solve for
0.5 = 1 - e to the power of (-8.9*t)
Solve for t.
Calculator crazy,
Heather
