Question 448057: When rewriting an exponential expression with a negative exponent and positive base to an expression containing only a positive exponent, does the sign of the base change?
-----
No; the negative in the exponent means "invert the base";
it does not mean you should change the sign of the base.
-----
Ex:
y = 10*2^(-t)
---
y = 10*(1/2)^t
QUESTION: Please explain what you mean when you say invert the base, it does not mean you should change the sign of the base. Im having a hard time explaning this to my classmates.... I would appreciate help with this....Sincere thanks

Question 444864: Some types of worms have a remarkable ability to live without moisture. The following table from one study shows the number of worms surviving after x days without moisture.
x is days and w is worms.
x = 0, 20, 40, 80, 120, 160
w = 50, 48, 45, 36, 20, 3
A) Use the equation W = -0.0014x^2 - 0.076x + 50 to find W for each x-value in the table. (Your can show me one and I may be able to get the rest)
B) Discuss how well this equation approximates the data.
C) Use the equation to estimate the number of worms on day 60 and 180. Which answer is most accurate and explain?

Question 460410: I had this exponent problem.
3^x-2 = 81 --> 3^4 = 81
I can solve it by trial and error (evaluating values for x)to get the exponent. But I figure that there has to be a better way to find the root. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated because I have similar problems to solve of this kind.
